JUNE 26-28: AMATEUR RADIO FIELD DAY / WEEKEND WITH VIENNA WIRELESS SOCIETY
Burke Lake Park, 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 (Sign up form attached)
Field Day is the single most popular amateur radio event of the year (seehttps://www.facebook.com/events/344578399070346/
). It is a contest that involves setting up radio stations in simulated emergency situations. Once the stations are set up radio operators try to contact as many other stations around the US and Canada as they can. We have a lot of fun during this event: we set up a radio station that is capable of communicating around the world, we make hundreds of radio contacts and eat lots of great food!
Scouts and adults, licensed or not, are welcome to attend. We have been invited to participate in the Field Day Program sponsored by the Vienna Wireless Society. The contest runs for 24 hours starting at 2 PM on Saturday June 27. Our plan is as follows.
* Setup: Friday: June 26: We will meet at the Falls Church Presbyterian Church at 4 PM and drive to the site to help with setup: tents, antennas, network cabling, etc.... We will return home by 9:30 PM
* Field Day Event: June 27: We will meet at the Falls Church Presbyterian Church at 0800 for departure at 0815. We will return to Burke Lake Park to finish setting up for the event. The contest will start at 2 PM local time and will run for 24 hours.
* Clean-up and return home: June 28: The contest will end at 2 PM on Sunday June 29. We will take down the stations and return home by 5 PM.
